PhD in Global Health

Admission to the PhD in Global Health Program is highly competitive and will be handled on a case-by-case basis evaluating candidates’ undergraduate curricula, master thesis, English-language proficiency, motivation, and references. Selected applicants will be invited for personal interviews with the Ph.D. Committee.

Entry requirements

  • Master’s in science (at least 2-year program)
  • MD with research experience
  • Training in Biostatistics and Epidemiology
  • Project proposal (check research lines of tentative supervisors and contact them if necessary)


Application periods for PhD program

  • for International applicants from December 9, 2021 February 28, 2022 (inclusive)
  • for the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan from December 9, 2021 – April 30, 2022 (inclusive)

The final deadline for submission of IELTS/TOEFL certificates

  • for International applicants February 28, 2022 (inclusive)
  • for the citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan April 30, 2022 (inclusive)


Application check-list

  1. Complete application form;
  2.  Copy of national ID or passport;
  3. A document confirming name changes (if applicable);
  4. Copy of Degree diplomas with official transcripts;
  5. Document confirming English as the language of instruction (only for applicants who earned their degree in a program which was taught in English and request an exemption from submitting IELTS or TOEFL);
  6. A project proposal for the PhD in Global Health (not more than 500 words);
  7.  Curriculum vitae;
  8. Any other documentation supporting the application, i.e. evidence of any professional and/or voluntary experiences that develop essential skills related to laboratory work (optional);
  9. List of graduate courses the applicant has taken in Epidemiology and Statistics;
  10. Two confidential reference letters in English (or with notarized English translation) written within the last 12 months (to be provided by referees electronically or in hard copy);
  11. 075/у medical certificate (for Kazakhstani applicants) or a similar medical certificate with indication of general health (for international applicants);
  12. Document stating the presence or absence of a criminal record;
  13. Consent for Prospective Student’s/Student’s/Graduate’s personal data processing.
