Stanford University annually compiles a ranking of the world's most cited scientists, which consistently includes faculty from NU. As of August 2024, the top 2% of scientists globally include 35 researchers from our university, including 7 from NU School of Medicine:

This ranking is based on bibliometric data from the Scopus database, which tracks over 180,000 leading scientists. The systematic bibliometric study was conducted by a team from Stanford University, led by Professor John Ioannidis.
Scientists were classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields, using Science-Metrix, an internationally recognized leader in science and technology evaluation. The study assesses several key metrics, including citation count, h-index, hm-index (adjusted for co-authorship), and a comprehensive score (c-score).
The ranking includes two lists: career-long achievement data (updated through the end of 2023) and past-year data, covering citations received during the 2023 calendar year.
