Introduction
The Coordinating Center for Clinical Trials in Kazakhstan (C3TK) is located within Nazarbayev University School of Medicine. NU Medicine includes an English-language medical school and UMC, one of the largest integrated academic medical centers in Eurasia. NU Medicine is striving for excellence in medical education, biomedical research, and patient care, and to improve the health and well-being of the population of Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and beyond.

We provide the flexibility that our clients require. We can provide a full range of services, including regulatory and ethics submission logistics and advice, but we can also tailor our menu of services to the specific needs of our clients.
We provide access to our network of hospitals in Astana, their clinics and physicians. When reviewing study protocols for feasibility implementation, we will work to quickly identify the appropriate clinic and investigators in which to implement the study.
We seek to act with integrity in all that we do. We are committed to clear and frequent communication with our clients. This also means working closely with our clients, clinical sites and investigators to provide quality clinical data that meets our recruitment targets.

Hospitals
All hospitals have received JCI Accreditation.
The National Research Center for Maternal and Child Health is one of the largest medical and scientific research institutions in Kazakhstan in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics and pediatric surgery in Central Asia. Patients here can access a wide variety of medical services from qualified doctors in specialties including allergy, gynecology, mammology, pediatrics, neurology, uro-nephrology, fetal medicine and others.
The Republican Diagnostic Center is a leading medical institution which provides the population of Kazakhstan with highly specialized diagnostic facilities. It includes outpatient clinics for gastroenterology, otolaryngology, hepatology, gynecology, urology, ophthalmology, and nuclear medicine.
The National Research Center for Cardiac Surgery is the leading institution for cardiology and cardiac surgery in Central Asia. It includes full services in cardiology, cardiac surgery, interventional cardiology, interventional arrythmology, rehabilitation and radio-diagnostics.
Team
Philip la Fleur
Director, C3TK
Philip is a pharmacist/epidemiologist and a clinical trials specialist from Canada. He has over 25 years of experience in clinical practice, clinical research, the pharmaceutical industry and health technology assessment. Philip has worked for the pharmaceutical companies Abbott, Amgen, and GlycoDesign. He has had responsibilities for developing, implementing and monitoring clinical research studies. He also contributed to medical marketing and medical informatics.
He holds a degree in pharmacy from the University of Toronto (Canada) and a Master of Science in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London (UK).
As Director of the C3TK, Philip is responsible for client relations and for directing the company’s strategic development including new business, contracts, investigator recruitment, site selection, biostatistical analysis and study design consultancy.
Aliya Sailybay
Director of Research, UMC
Dr. Saliybaeva is a seasoned research leader in Kazakhstan with over 20 years of experience. As Director of Research at the National Center for Cardiac Surgery, she has overseen the implementation of more than a dozen clinical trials of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. These include partnerships with Abbott Laboratories, CARMAT, Medtronic, Bayer, Terumo and Thoratec.
Gulmira Asmaganbetova
Lead Project Manager for C3TK
Gulmira is a PRINCE2 certified project manager with more than 17 years of experience in healthcare. She managed projects related to AI solutions in healthcare and translational research initiatives. She also coordinated projects within the Erasmus+ program, supporting EC-funded projects in Kazakhstan. Prior to joining NU Medicine, she worked for 14 years at Karaganda Medical University.
Bakytgul Yermekbayeva, MD, PhD, DMSc
Senior Clinical Research Consultant
Dr. Yermekbayeva is a medical doctor and a graduate of Karaganda State Medical Institute (KGMI). She has over 25 years of experience. Her experience includes work in the ZdravPlusproject (USAID) as a Director of the Drug Information Center, Chief Researcher in the Laboratory of Toxicology and Pharmacology in the National Center for Biotechnology, Senior Researcher in the Department of Translational Medicine, Healthy Aging and Global Health in the Center for Life Sciences (Nazarbayev University and Senior Research Specialist UMC. Dr. Yermekbayeva has training from the Vienna School of Clinical Trials (Austria), including Certification for Trainers of GCP and courses in Pharmacoeconomics.
